People ask me what does Kiwanis do? What do you do with the money you raise? How much time do I have to put in to be a member? What is the cost of joining the Onsted Kiwanis Club? Sometimes I am asked questions about Kiwanis that just amaze me. The Onsted Kiwanis has been around in excess of 50 years and generations of family members have been a part of the Kiwanis family. Money has been raised for scholarships, eyeglasses, wheelchair ramps. Donations have been used to to purchase mittens, jackets, parkas, snow pants, and many other charitable items for the community and still I am asked "what do you do". A large ATV track was built and money was raised to bring money into the community and it became known internationally and people in the area say "how do you raise your money"? Christmas wreathes are sold, nut sales, 50/50 drawings, all bring money back to the community, and you say "Why do you do what you do for the community". Well my standard answer is because "I can" I have enjoy ed being a member of the Onsted Kiwanis because it makes a difference in the community. All you have to do is help one member of society out there that enriches their life and it makes all the freezing in the cold, sweating in the summer and working your tail off worth while. Thank You Onsted Kiwanis for making my life worth while. Join us and you would see WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO AND HOW WE RAISE OUR MONEY.

I joined Onsted Kiwanis Club after the group had awarded two
scholarships to my oldest son. I wanted to help raise money for the scholarships after they had helped him out with his college expenses. I was soon to find out that the club raises money for several causes. My younger son received money to help him attend his Youth in Government program and trip to Lansing every year. Both boys participated in OCRC and school sports, which our club also helped with by supplying uniforms, help with fields, etc. I also had a very good friend who was a member, so that helped make it easier to join the group. I have met many friends through the group, and feel that I am more a part of the Onsted community by belonging to the club. --Penny Sweet Member since 2003
No matter who you are you were once a curious, excitable child. Amazed at bugs. Curious how letters made sounds and those sounds turned into words. Excited when those math facts made sense and could help you solve new problems. Awestruck at how long ago people lived and how they invented new things! Kiwanians want every child to experience these life shaping events while alleviating all that can stand in their way. From meeting life's basic needs to opening doors to new experiences, each fundraiser and event that Onsted Kiwanis sponsors and holds allows us to continue our mission of bettering the youth of our community. While I have only been a member for a short time the spirit and good-will of all Onsted Kiwanians has rubbed off on me and inspired me to support the children of our community in any way I can. Would you like to join us and help make a child's dream come true? ~Matt McCullough - Member since 2014 |
